About Tanya…

In November 2008, Tanya was elected to the city council of Jordan, Minnesota. Tanya’s overall community and municipal involvement begins with her work experiences. She is a part of multiple committees and engages in community committees.

Tanya holds a Bachelor’s degree in nursing and a (Public Health Nurse)P.H.N. degree from the College of St. Catherine, a Master’s degree in nursing from the University of Phoenix and a School Nursing License from the University of Minnesota.  Tanya is an Academic Clinical Placement Coordinator within Talent Acquisition at Fairview Health Services.  Tanya represents Fairview on the Clinical Coordination Partnership (TCCP) to assist student placements within Minnesota Health Force and the Minnesota Internship Implementation Committee which meets with the Minnesota Board of Nursing Department.

Tanya is also an adjunct faculty member at the Minnesota School of Business and Minnesota State University of Mankato, a casual school nurse at St. John the Baptist Elementary School and director of the Jordan Area Food Shelf.  Tanya has a strong background in Women’s Health, Labor and Delivery, newborn babies, clinical development, health professional student placement, community and public health, leadership, education, international nursing and global health mission services.

Tanya is part of the Parent Association for St. John the Baptist School and a member of Community Education Joint Powers Committee, Economic Development Authority (EDA), Jordan Area Chamber of Commerce, Jordan Commercial Club, Jordan Coalition Committee, Jordan Jaycees, and the Spanish Community Committee liaison.  Tanya is also involved in international medical missions to include the San Francisco de Asis Program and she is the executive director of Manos de la Caridad.

Tanya’s overall community and municipal involvement begins with her work experiences.  Through her work in the medical field, she has become involved in the management of a hospital and clinic in Lima, Peru.  In Lima, she has implemented a lactation department, water births, perinatal classes and has done grant writing.  Also in Peru, she has coordinated and managed, through the cooperation of medical staff from the United States and Peru, hospital administration policies, procedures and preparations for patient surgeries.  In addition, Tanya has worked on developing triage, market and capturing patients’ with medical needs, grant writing and fundraising, working with multiple physicians, coordinating travel arrangements, managing paperwork for the Ministry of Health and working with government regulations internationally.

Through her work, she became interested in initiating a Jordan Area Foodshelf to serve a population in need of food and other necessary items.  She worked with 5 different religious organizations, managed and coordinated volunteers, arranged for monthly meetings, developed bylaws, policies and procedures, fundraising, marketing and budgeting and developed a 5 year financial plan.  She also did the work necessary to obtain 501c3 nonprofit status for the organization.  She has mentored volunteers to working towards success for the community and this is demonstrated in what has been mentioned above.

Tanya represents multiple League of Minnesota and Metro City conferences and meetings throughout the year to keep updated on state projects, concerns, legislation, and changes throughout Minnesota.
